
Cherry Pie
Cherry pie with fresh strawberries and pineapple.
Getting sweet cherries is a hard find in my area so I use a canned cherry filling to make my pies, however there’s that craving for something fresh in all my meals as nutrition is very important to my husband and I. Here’s my simple easy cherry strawberry pie recipe.
I use the same dough as my butter tarts and apple dumpling so yes, this dough is very versatile and has a great fridge life as well.
Can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
Ingredients
Directions
Combine pie filling (fresh strawberries,lemon juice,cherry filling etc)in a bowl and set aside.
In a separate bowl combine flour,salt,cinnamon,nutmeg and set aside.
Add flour mixture to mixer.
Add egg,water and vinegar mix together and gradually add the 2 cups of lard.Once dough is formed,roll onto a floured surface and cut out the desired shapes for the pie.
Line pie dough with the pastry(cut off excess), sprinkle a little flour on the bottom of the pastry in the pie dish.
Heap filling into pie and(add sugar and butter on top ,this is totally optional) cover the top with desired design on top.
Brush with egg wash sprinkle brown sugar and place in an oven preheated to 375 degrees.
To ensure your pie bakes without burning, make sure you place a piece of foil over the pie with air holes for steam to escape. after 45 mins of baking remove foil and turn heat up to 400 for the remaining 15 minutes of baking.
After the hour remove the pie from oven and allow to cool before slicing.
Serve with your favorite ice cream and enjoy with your family and friends.
